Interlibrary Loan Questions and Answers
BACK to the ILL Form page
Any student, faculty or staff member of Union-PSCE or BTSR who lives in the Richmond area may request an Interlibrary Loan. Those who cannot come to campus (and all other library patrons) should request material through their local public libraries. Public libraries have access to the same ILL database we use and should be able to provide this service. If you are an ECP or D.Min. student, please click HERE for further information. When will my book or article arrive? Anywhere from 2 days to 3-4 weeks, depending on where it must come from. We request from the closest locations first, but you need to plan as far ahead as possible. How long may I keep a book? Each lending library has its own loan period, but typically it is 3-6 weeks. If you need to renew an ILL book, you must contact the ILL Librarian, Pam Wells. Sometimes a library will restrict a loan to NO RENEWALS. If you are unable to finish within the loan period, please return the book on time, and request that we borrow a second copy from another location. Where do I pick up and return ILL material? When your book or article arrives, you will be notified via e-mail. Come to the Reference Room, on the southwest side of the building, where there is a window ledge beside the office door of the ILL Librarian. Please sign and leave the top white slip, acknowledging receipt of your material. It is VERY IMPORTANT not to return your ILL books to the Circulation Desk, where they might accidentally get shelved in our library. Always bring them back to the window ledge where you picked them up. Are there overdue fines? Yes, $1 per day will be charged to your library account. Items overdue 7 days or more will cause your library privileges to be suspended. Are there other restrictions? A student may have only 5 loans at any one time. Some material may be restricted to LIBRARY USE ONLY. Microfilm and microfiche items must be viewed in our library only. Whole issues of periodicals cannot be borrowed.
